Actress Meher Afroz Shaon’s Facebook account has been suspended following widespread criticism over a recent post about the July mass uprising.

Writer Tamanna Setu, a close associate of Shaon, said the account was suspended after it received a large number of reports from users. In a Facebook post on Sunday, Tamanna Setu said Shaon had confirmed the suspension herself.

“Friend Meher Afroz Shaon’s Facebook account has been suspended by Facebook because of a large number of reports. Shaon did not delete the post that sparked the recent controversy,” she wrote. The development comes amid growing backlash over Shaon’s comments on the July mass uprising.

Earlier, a written complaint was lodged with Shahbagh Police Station against Shaon and five others, accusing them of making misleading and offensive social media posts regarding the July uprising. There has been no official statement from Meta regarding the suspension of the account.
