Six months after the formation of the government following the 13th parliamentary election, the ruling administration has yet to take any initiative to implement the people’s verdict delivered through the referendum, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar has alleged.
Speaking about the alliance’s demands, he said the government had instead moved away from fulfilling the referendum mandate.
“We are not launching any movement to topple the government.Our demand—and the people’s demand—is that the government accept the people’s verdict in the referendum and implement our six-point demands,” he said.
Golam Parwar said the alliance was working toward its vision of building a better Bangladesh and urged both the ruling and opposition parties to demonstrate political tolerance following the political changes of July 2024.
“Let it now be proved that there is mutual tolerance between the ruling and opposition parties and that we have moved beyond the negative culture of political violence,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the alliance’s planned long march would be held peacefully, saying there was no expectation of sabotage or any loss of life or property.
The Jamaat leader also expected thousands of people to line both sides of the route to welcome the participants of the long march.
The remarks came at a final preparatory meeting attended by Jamaat Assistant Secretary General and 11-party alliance Coordinator AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, Jagpa spokesperson Rashed Pradhan and Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim, among others.
