A special exhibition at the Vatican Museums in Rome is showcasing the historic visits of Pope John Paul II and Pope Francis to Bangladesh.
Titled “The Pastoral Visits of Two Popes to Bangladesh: John Paul II (1986) and Francis (2017),” the exhibition is being held at Anima Mundi, the Vatican Museums’ ethnological museum.
The exhibition highlights key moments from the two papal visits through a selection of artworks from the collection of the Apostolic Nunciature in Dhaka.
Pope John Paul II visited Bangladesh in 1986, while Pope Francis made a historic visit in 2017. Both visits are regarded as significant milestones in Bangladesh’s history of religious harmony, humanitarian values and relations with the international community.
The exhibition is now in its final phase and offers visitors from Italy and around the world an opportunity to learn about Bangladesh’s history and an important chapter in the country’s relationship with the Vatican.
The Embassy of Italy in Dhaka has welcomed the initiative and congratulated the Vatican Museums on the exhibition. It also thanked the Apostolic Nunciature in Dhaka for supporting the display of the artworks.
