The July Memorial Museum, built to preserve the memory of the July mass uprising, will be inaugurated before August 5, Information Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr Jahed Ur Rahman has said.
He made the announcement on Tuesday while responding to a question during the government’s regular progress briefing at the conference room of the Department of Information at the Secretariat.
A journalist asked whether the government had made a final decision on the opening of the museum, which was initiated by the previous interim government ahead of the second anniversary of the July uprising.
“We have already shared updates on the July Memorial Museum. It will be inaugurated before August 5. There is no room for any confusion on this matter,” Dr Rahman said.
He said a few final tasks, including staff recruitment and other administrative and technical procedures, are still being completed. The museum will be formally opened once those works are finished.
Responding to concerns that journalists do not regularly receive soft copies of the government’s progress reports, Dr Rahman assured that the issue would be addressed.
“Because of time constraints during the briefing, it is not always possible to cover every issue in detail. We will ensure that the full soft copy is shared with journalists so that no information is left out,” he said.
Officials believe the museum’s inauguration will mark another step in the government’s efforts to preserve the history of the July mass uprising and present it to future generations.
Chief Information Officer Syed Abdal Ahmed was also present at the briefing.
