Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has named its candidates for the upcoming Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) elections.
Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar announced Dhaka Metropolitan North unit chief Mohammad Selim Uddin as the party’s candidate for Dhaka North and Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) Vice-President Sadik Kayem for Dhaka South.
He made the announcement at a Seerat-un-Nabi conference organised by the National Doctors Forum’s Dhaka South unit at the Diploma Engineers Institution in the capital on Monday.
Parwar said political parties may contest the national election as part of alliances, but they would compete separately in local government elections.
“Accordingly, Jamaat has finalised its two candidates for the Dhaka city corporation elections,” he said.
Commenting on the vandalism of Jinnah’s photograph at the DUCSU museum, Parwar said those involved in conventional politics without understanding the history of the region could engage in such behaviour.
