The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Land has called for accelerated automation and digitalisation of land services, including integrated land management systems, spatial data infrastructure and parcel-level digital zoning.
At its first meeting of the 13th National Parliament on Wednesday, September 16, the committee decided to take necessary steps to bring the Registration Directorate, currently under the Ministry of Law, under the Ministry of Land.
The meeting, chaired by Committee Chairman Naser Rahman at the Parliament Complex, also reviewed technology-driven projects to strengthen the digital survey capacity of the Directorate of Land Records and Surveys.
Projects discussed included the Land Management Automation Project, National Digital Land Zoning Project, digitisation of record rooms at Deputy Commissioner offices, nationwide digital cadastral surveys and construction of new administrative land complexes.
The committee recommended prioritising higher state revenue and easier access to land services for citizens while implementing the projects. It also called for immediate recruitment to vacant field-level posts to speed up both digital and manual land services.
The committee decided to visit the central Bhumi Bhaban to assess ongoing activities and infrastructure.
Land Minister Md Mizanur Rahman Minu, State Minister for Land Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin and committee members Joynal Abedin, Shah Md Wares Ali Mamun, Ershad Ullah, Sultana Ahmed, Md Mahbubur Rahman (Belal) and Muhammadullah attended the meeting.
Senior Secretary of the Land Ministry, heads of relevant agencies and senior officials of the Parliament Secretariat were also present. The meeting began with an overview of the ministry’s activities, human resources and development plans.
