Nuclear power is expected to be connected to Bangladesh’s national grid by the end of August, Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, Information Technology, and Science and Technology Faqir Mahbub Anam said on Tuesday.

Speaking to ICT and telecommunications journalists at the ICT Tower in Agargaon, Dhaka, the minister expressed optimism that the project would be completed on schedule.

He said uranium has already been loaded into the reactor of the country’s nuclear power plant after he took office.

“If everything goes according to plan, nuclear power will be connected to Bangladesh’s national grid by the end of August, In sha Allah,” he said.

The minister also announced that work on the government’s proposed “One ID” project will begin soon under the Prime Minister’s directive.

He said the unified digital identity system will store a citizen’s information from birth to death on a single platform.

According to the minister, the system will help integrate government services and make public service delivery more efficient and accessible.

He added that the government is committed to completing inherited development projects efficiently while ensuring public funds are used properly and not wasted.
