China’s outgoing Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen has proposed arranging training programmes in China for leaders of different political parties in Bangladesh.
He made the proposal during a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister’s Adviser for Public Administration Md Ismail Jabiullah at the Secretariat on Sunday.
The meeting focused on strengthening people-to-people contacts and further advancing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and China.
At the meeting, Ismail Jabiullah said Bangladesh attaches great importance to its longstanding relations with China, describing Beijing as one of Bangladesh’s major trading and investment partners.
He said cooperation between the two countries has expanded beyond trade and investment to areas including education, technology, human resource development, public administration and knowledge sharing.
The adviser also stressed the importance of Chinese cooperation in Bangladesh’s sustainable development and called for greater collaboration in joint research, technology and skills exchange, and cultural engagement.
Yao Wen said recent visits to China by Bangladeshi delegations at various levels had further strengthened bilateral ties. He particularly referred to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s visit to China, saying it had taken the relationship to a new level.
The ambassador proposed that the China-Bangladesh Friendship Society arrange a structured and planned training programme in Bangladesh that would include opportunities for leaders of different political parties to receive training.
He said such a programme could help increase communication and mutual understanding between political parties in the two countries.
Referring to a memorandum of understanding signed between the Communist Party of China and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Yao Wen also stressed the need to further expand cooperation between the two parties.
Officials from the Chinese Embassy were present at the meeting.
