A total of 1,684 chief examiners and examiners are facing disciplinary action over errors in evaluating answer scripts that led to changes in the results of this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations under the Jashore Education Board.
The board is considering barring the examiners from evaluating SSC answer scripts for two years and excluding them from question-setting duties, among other possible disciplinary measures.
The errors affected the results of 2,436 students after they applied for re-scrutiny of their examination results, said Jashore Education Board Examination Controller Prof S M Hossain Ali on Wednesday.
According to board data, 28,862 students applied for re-scrutiny of 74,717 answer scripts in 25 subjects this year.
Following the review, the results of 2,436 students were changed. Of them, 380 students who had initially failed were declared successful, while the grades of 1,304 students were revised. Some students also received GPA-5 after the re-scrutiny.
After reviewing the answer scripts linked to the changed results, the board identified 1,684 chief examiners and examiners whose work was associated with the discrepancies.
Prof Hossain Ali said a proposal had been made to prevent the identified examiners from evaluating SSC answer scripts for the next two years. The final decision will be taken at a meeting of the board’s disciplinary committee.
He said other measures, including barring the examiners from question-setting duties, were also being considered.
The board has taken disciplinary action against examiners in previous years over errors in answer-script evaluation and result processing.
In 2020, 290 examiners were blacklisted following the re-scrutiny of SSC and JSC results over errors involving OMR sheets, mark calculations and evaluation.
That year, 10,746 JSC candidates applied for re-scrutiny, resulting in changes to the results of 159 students. Of them, 54 failed students were declared successful and 83 received GPA-5 for the first time.
Following the re-scrutiny of the 2021 SSC results, the results of 60 students were changed, while 19 examiners were identified and barred from evaluating answer scripts for the following two years.
Similar discrepancies were found during the re-scrutiny of the 2025 HSC results. In many cases, marks awarded on inside pages of answer scripts had not been properly added to the marks recorded on the front page. The board subsequently blacklisted 72 examiners and barred them from evaluating answer scripts for at least one year.
During the re-scrutiny process, an answer script is generally not evaluated afresh. Instead, officials check whether marks were awarded for each question, whether marks on inside pages were correctly added, whether the totals were accurately transferred to the front page, whether marks were correctly entered on the OMR sheet, and whether there were errors in computer data entry.
