Two children were killed in separate rain-triggered landslides in Chattogram on Wednesday as persistent heavy rainfall continued to batter the region.
The incidents occurred in Jangal Salimpur of Sitakunda upazila and the Chashma Hill area under Panchlaish Police Station in the port city.
According to Sitakunda Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Fakhrul Islam, one of the victims was Ashraful Islam, a 10-month-old boy and son of Moinuddin, who was killed in the landslide at Jangal Salimpur.
The other victim, Samia, 12, died in a separate landslide at Chashma Hill.
The fatalities came as days of torrential rain heightened the risk of landslides across Chattogram’s vulnerable hillside communities.
