The government will launch a special measles-rubella (MR) vaccination campaign across Bangladesh tomorrow, targeting around 3.4 million unvaccinated children aged six months to below five years.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain will inaugurate the campaign, titled “Intensified MR Catch-up Vaccination”, at the T&T Playground in Korail, Banani, at 9:00am.
State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr MA Muhit will attend the inauguration as the special guest.
The campaign will continue until October 31 and will cover children who were missed during the ongoing MR vaccination drive or have not previously received the vaccine, the health minister said at a press conference on Sunday.
Children who reach six months of age during the campaign period and become newly eligible for vaccination will also be included, he said.
Sakhawat said the government had taken various measures to control measles infections and protect children following an outbreak of the disease this year. The national measles-rubella vaccination campaign has been conducted in phases since April.
According to the Integrated Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 19,855,274 children had received the MR vaccine as of September 24 under the National Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign 2026.
During the special campaign, health authorities will prepare lists of children who missed vaccination and arrange for them to receive the vaccine, the minister said.
“Through this process, efforts will also be made to identify children who are outside the existing lists or previous campaign data,” Sakhawat said.
Health workers and volunteers will visit households during the campaign to verify children’s vaccination status and identify those who remain unvaccinated, he added.
