DHAKA: Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Nurul Islam Moni has extended his greetings and a warm welcome to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman following his return home after successfully attending the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

He said the prime minister’s diplomatic visit was highly significant in presenting Bangladesh’s national interests, the aspirations of its people and the country’s positive image on the global stage. He added that the visit would open new avenues for mutual cooperation between Bangladesh and the international community.

The prime minister was welcomed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday morning after completing his five-day official visit to New York, United States. When the Emirates Airlines flight carrying the prime minister landed in Dhaka at 8:20am, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni and Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moin Khan were present at the airport to formally receive him.

During the five-day visit, the prime minister participated in several high-level programmes and bilateral meetings, highlighting Bangladesh’s priorities on the global stage.

The UN General Assembly marked Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s first participation in the session. On September 24, he delivered his first major address on the global stage entirely in Bangla.

In his speech, he reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to global peace and international cooperation, a lasting solution to the Rohingya crisis, the Palestinian issue, climate justice, and implementation of a 3-R framework — Recovery, Restoration and Reconstruction — for rebuilding the country.
