Students of Dhaka Central University (DCU) have placed seven demands, including holding examinations promptly, reducing session backlogs and ensuring a better academic environment.
They made the demands at a press conference held at the Central Shaheed Minar of Dhaka College at 1pm on Monday.
The students said they have long been facing administrative complications, session backlogs, delays in publishing results, teacher shortages and inadequate facilities for quality higher education.
They also welcomed newly appointed DCU Vice-Chancellor Prof M Lutfor Rahman and expressed hope that he would play a leading role in resolving the university’s longstanding problems.
The students urged the administration to take effective measures quickly, keeping their concerns and expectations in mind.
Their seven demands are:
1.Complete examinations for students of the 2021-22 to 2024-25 academic sessions as soon as possible and publish results within the stipulated time.
2.Reduce session fees and examination form-fill-up fees to a reasonable level.
3.Establish a full-fledged administrative structure as soon as possible and introduce a modern, up-to-date curriculum.
4.Ensure quality academic and teaching environments at every campus, including well-equipped libraries and facilities conducive to research, along with necessary renovation and construction work.
5.Construct and ensure a permanent administrative building and a TSC for the university.
6.Build new residential halls at each campus according to student demand.
7.Ensure adequate university transport is allocated to each campus according to its needs.
