Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s proposed visit to India is moving forward, but no date has been finalised yet, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi said Tuesday, stressing that the trip would take place “at the right time” as Dhaka and New Delhi continue discussions on the schedule
“There is no hurry. The visit will take place at the right time,” Trivedi told reporters after a courtesy meeting with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He said both Bangladesh and India were taking a positive approach to the proposed visit and that discussions over the schedule were progressing well.
“We are positive about the visit, and everything is moving forward positively,” the envoy said.
Trivedi’s remarks came amid reports in Indian media that the two sides were exploring possible dates in November for the visit. However, he did not confirm any specific date or schedule.
The Indian Express reported earlier this month that Dhaka and New Delhi had resumed discussions on a bilateral visit and were exploring a possible window in the latter half of November.
The proposed visit has been under discussion for several months. India had earlier invited Rahman to visit New Delhi, while Trivedi has repeatedly said that the timing of the trip rests with the Bangladesh prime minister.
In early September, Trivedi said the decision on the visit was entirely the prime minister’s prerogative.
The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for the two sides to discuss bilateral relations and outstanding issues as Bangladesh and India seek to improve ties.
