Russia’s state nuclear energy corporation Rosatom will begin supplying nuclear fuel for the second unit of Bangladesh’s Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in October, with shipments scheduled to continue through December.
Rosatom announced the schedule in a statement on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the fuel supply for Unit-2 will start in October 2026 and be completed by the end of December.
The nuclear fuel will be transported in several flights in line with the project schedule and contractual arrangements.
The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is being built in Ishwardi, Pabna, with Russian financial and technical assistance and under Rosatom’s overall supervision. The project is being implemented by Rosatom’s engineering division, Atomstroyexport.
The plant consists of two units. Unit-1 is awaiting commencement of commercial power generation, while construction of Unit-2 is also nearing completion.
According to project-related sources, fuel loading in Unit-2 is expected to take place next year.
Both units are equipped with Russia’s Generation III+ VVER-1200 reactors. Each unit has a capacity of 1,200 megawatts, giving the plant a combined generation capacity of 2,400 megawatts.
