Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will visit Feni on Thursday to inaugurate the Tk 1,542.16-crore Muhuri-Kohua Flood Control, Drainage and Irrigation Project and attend a series of development and social welfare programmes.
The prime minister is scheduled to leave his Gulshan residence by road at 8:30am and reach the Ghata Ghar-Muhuri Bridge area in Parshuram around 12:30pm.
He will inaugurate the first phase of the rehabilitation project and exchange greetings with local residents.
Approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on June 16, the project includes rehabilitation of flood-control embankments, riverbank protection, re-excavation of rivers and water bodies, and renovation of irrigation infrastructure.
The project is intended to address recurring flooding, waterlogging and river erosion in the region.
Tarique will travel to Begum Khaleda Zia Women’s College in Fulgazi around 1:15pm and join a tree-planting programme there at 1:30pm.
At around 2pm, he will visit the Fulgazi District Council Dak Bungalow to inaugurate the supply of electricity to the national grid from rooftop solar installations. He will then have lunch and take a short break.
At 3pm, the prime minister will attend a programme at the Fulgazi Government Pilot High School ground, where the formal distribution of Family Cards and Farmer Cards will be launched.
He will also hand over state honorariums to imams, muezzins and khadims of local mosques, as well as priests of other religious institutions.
Tarique is scheduled to leave Feni for Dhaka by road at around 5:30pm.
His visit was originally scheduled for September 17 but was postponed and later rescheduled for October 1.
