Customs officials at the Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Dhaka have blocked the import of 1,980 drones weighing 658kg and valued at nearly Tk 1 crore after they were declared as rechargeable remote-control (RRC) toys.

The drones were detected during a physical inspection of a consignment imported by Mim Collection, a trader based in Chawk Bazar, according to a press release from the National Board of Revenue (NBR).

Acting on a tip-off received by Customs House ICD Commissioner Kazi Muhammad Ziauddin, officials examined the consignment on September 29.

The shipment was imported under Bill of Entry No. 12367, dated September 27, with various types of toys declared in the documents.

During the inspection, customs officials found the drones concealed among the declared goods, the release said.

The authorities said the applicable customs revenue and fines related to the imported drones would be recovered.

Further action will be taken after verifying the drones’ flying range and examining the relevant documents, it said.

Customs officials are also preparing legal action against those involved under the Customs Act 2023 and other relevant regulations.

Commissioner Kazi Muhammad Ziauddin said Customs House ICD was maintaining a strict stance against imports that violate the country’s import policy or involve attempts to evade revenue, in line with instructions from the NBR chairman.

The authorities are examining the consignment and related documents to determine the extent of the violations and the appropriate legal measures.
