Police Headquarters has ordered the formation of Quick Response Teams (QRTs) in every district to respond rapidly to sudden law-and-order disruptions and other emergencies.

The directive was issued by the Operations Branch of Police Headquarters on Wednesday (September 30).

Additional DIG (Operations) Shahzada Md Asaduzzaman signed the letter, which was sent to all district police superintendents and relevant specialised units.

The QRTs will operate under the supervision of district police and include personnel from specialised units such as the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Naval Police, Railway Police, Tourist Police, Armed Police Battalion (APBN), Industrial Police and Highway Police.

According to the directive, the teams will be responsible for reaching affected areas quickly, containing sudden law-and-order situations and helping restore normalcy.

Police Headquarters has also instructed district police to conduct regular joint operations and drills involving QRT members, particularly in areas identified as crime- and drug-prone.

The exercises are aimed at improving coordination among different police units and strengthening their ability to conduct rapid joint operations during emergencies.

District authorities have been asked to promptly report details of the operations and drills to the relevant branch of Police Headquarters.

The reports will include the number of officers and personnel involved, items recovered and people detained during the operations.
