According to the organisers, Soleman Khokon went to volunteer in the construction of a mosque on March 14, 2016.
He was allegedly brutally killed by a group of extremists who accused the mosque project of being the construction of a church. The attackers allegedly set fire to his body after the killing.
The mosque has since been completed as a four-storey building, the organisers said.
They said Khokon Smriti Samaj Kalyan Sangha was established to preserve his memory and work towards fulfilling his dream of bringing lasting smiles to people’s faces.
The programme was attended by the organisation’s General Secretary Mafizul Islam Babul, member Tofayel Hossain Mohan, other members and local dignitaries.
