Former Major General Golam Mohiuddin Chowdhury was granted conditional bail on Monday, five days after his arrest in connection with an attack on the New Guinea Properties housing project in the capital’s ECB Chattar area.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junaid granted him bail after a hearing on the matter.

Mohiuddin was arrested in connection with the case filed over the September 26 attack on the housing project amid an ongoing dispute over land ownership and control.

According to investigators, a group of armed men attacked the New Guinea Properties project at around 11:15pm. The attackers allegedly vandalised the property and fired around 50 blank shots, triggering panic in the area.

The incident also involved an attack on a nearby studio belonging to content creator Salman Muqtadir, according to police.

Investigators have said the violence was allegedly carried out by hired men and local residents mobilised in connection with the dispute. Police are also investigating the alleged role of several individuals in planning and facilitating the attack.

Mohiuddin was taken into custody as part of the investigation and subsequently produced before a court. After spending five days in custody, he was granted conditional bail on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police is continuing its investigation into the case. Several other suspects have been arrested and questioned over their alleged involvement in the attack.
