Police have arrested the prime accused in the murder of college student Zakaria Khan, 19, and his alleged associate in Satkhira while they were allegedly preparing to flee to India.
The arrestees are Nahid Hasan, 26, the prime accused in the case, and Amit Hasan alias Shipon, 30.
Police said they were arrested during a joint operation by Satkhira Sadar Police and the district Detective Branch (DB) at Shipon’s house in Shuilpur village, a border area of Kaliganj upazila, around 4am on Tuesday.
The arrests came after police received information that Nahid was staying in the border area, said police.
Satkhira Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shafiqul Islam said the two were arrested in connection with Zakaria’s murder and that efforts were underway to arrest the other accused.
Zakaria was seriously injured in a stabbing at a tea stall near the Pashu Hospital intersection in Satkhira town on Friday night. He was taken to Satkhira Medical College Hospital, where he died.
The victim’s brother, Md Shahriar Khan, filed a murder case with Sadar Police Station on Saturday night, naming Nahid as the prime accused and 11 others. Four to five unidentified people were also accused.
Police had earlier arrested Muhid Hasan Boni, one of the named accused, and sent him to court.
