The Class VI curriculum will be expanded in 2027 with four new areas of study aimed at giving students greater exposure to practical and extracurricular learning, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon said on Tuesday.
The additions will include joyful learning, technical education, sports and culture, the minister said while speaking to reporters after inaugurating the 53rd National Summer Sports Competition at Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla.
“Students will be introduced to joyful learning, technical education, sports and culture from Class VI,” Milon said.
He said the education programme would undergo further review from 2028, with changes and additional textbooks introduced according to students’ needs.
The minister was speaking at an event attended by Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin, who addressed the impact of the ongoing Middle East conflict on fuel prices in Bangladesh.
“Gas and fuel prices have increased in Bangladesh due to the war in the Middle East,” Mahdi said, adding that diesel prices in the country were still lower than in neighbouring countries.
He said the government was providing the maximum possible subsidy to keep fuel prices under control and reduce the impact of the global crisis on consumers.
Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher Sumon attended the programme as a special guest, along with senior officials from government departments and the education sector.
Cumilla Education Board Chairman Professor Md Ahsan Parvez chaired the event.
Students from education boards across the country are participating in the national competition.
