The Appellate Division’s Chamber Judge Court has stayed a High Court order that had imposed a status quo on a government policy restricting multiple fertiliser dealerships to members of the same family.

Justice Md Rezaul Haque, sitting as the Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division, passed the order on Wednesday.

As a result, the restriction under the government’s existing fertiliser dealership policy remains in force, meaning multiple members of the same family cannot obtain fertiliser dealerships in violation of the policy.

Attorney General Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kajal confirmed the court order to reporters.

Earlier, a writ petition was filed challenging the government policy provisions concerning the eligibility of multiple members of the same family to obtain fertiliser dealerships. After hearing the petition, the High Court issued a status quo order on the relevant provisions.

The state later moved the Chamber Judge Court of the Appellate Division against the High Court order.

Following the hearing, the Chamber Judge stayed the High Court’s order, effectively keeping the government’s restrictions on multiple fertiliser dealerships within the same family in place.

The Attorney General said the Chamber Judge’s order means the relevant provisions of the government policy will continue to apply to the distribution and dealership of fertiliser.
