The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) has approved a project to build a 442MW solar power plant with battery energy storage in Rampal, Bagerhat, which is expected to be the country’s largest solar power project.
The proposal was approved at an Ecnec meeting held at the Secretariat on Wednesday (October 7).
The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) will implement the project, with completion targeted for December 2030, according to the project proposal.
The project has an estimated cost of Tk2,502 crore, of which Tk2,123 crore will be financed from the Power Development Fund and Tk374.71 crore from BPDB’s own resources.
The plant will be equipped with a battery energy storage system alongside the solar generation facilities.
The proposed electricity tariff from the project is Tk6.18 per unit.
The project is expected to boost electricity generation from renewable sources. The battery storage system will allow electricity generated by the solar plant to be stored and supplied when needed, helping improve the reliability and usability of solar power.
