Police arrested 20 people in anti-drug drives and detained 70 alleged members of juvenile gangs in separate operations across Chandpur district over the past 24 hours.
The drives also led to the recovery of 51 yaba pills and 293 grams of cannabis, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Nadia Noor confirmed on Sunday morning.
According to police, the anti-drug operations were conducted in different police station areas across the district on Saturday.
Police in Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station arrested eight people for consuming various drugs and another person with 11 yaba pills.
In Faridganj, police filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act and arrested a named accused, recovering 100 grams of cannabis.
Police in Matlab South arrested two people with 23 grams of cannabis, while officers in Matlab North arrested two others with 24 yaba pills and 20 grams of cannabis.
In separate operations, two people were arrested with five yaba pills in Hajiganj, two with six yaba pills in Shahrasti, and two with five yaba pills and 150 grams of cannabis in Kachua.
Legal action has been taken against those arrested in the anti-drug drives, police said.
Meanwhile, the anti-juvenile gang operation resulted in the detention of one person in Haimchar, 14 in Faridganj, eight in Matlab North, 14 in Hajiganj, 17 in Shahrasti and 16 in Kachua.
Police said the detained teenagers were handed over to their respective guardians after verification.
Chandpur Superintendent of Police Md Mizanur Rahman said the district police were committed to eliminating drugs and juvenile gangs. He urged people from all walks of life to cooperate in building a drug-free and safe society and asked anyone with information about drug-related activities to contact the nearest police station or the district police hotline.
