DHAKA: Bangladesh will begin discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) next week to finalise the details of its loan proposal, Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said.
The talks aim to resolve outstanding issues and finalise the proposal, he said.
Speaking after a meeting with the IMF in Bangkok on Friday, the finance minister said, “Everything is agreed in principle. Now, delegations from both sides will sit together to determine how the agreement can be finalised.”
He said the meeting discussed the final review of Bangladesh’s loan proposal submitted to the IMF.
The minister added that all multilateral institutions were working closely with Bangladesh. The World Bank, IMF, Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), along with other multilateral and bilateral development partners, were keen to support the country.
He said the coming year would be extremely important for Bangladesh, a view also shared by its development partners.
According to the minister, Dhaka has proposed signing a Country Partnership Framework (CPF) with the World Bank. The government has also developed a five-year development framework.
He made the remarks on the sidelines of the 2026 IMF and World Bank Group Annual Meetings, held in Bangkok from October 12 to 18.
