KHULNA: Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju has called for practical and coordinated measures to address disasters and emerging challenges posed by climate change.
He made the call as the chief guest at a day-long youth summit and training programme held on Friday afternoon at the Christian Service Society (CSS) Ava Centre in Khulna city.
The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society’s Khulna City Unit organised the programme.
Manju said the Red Crescent had consistently played a leading role in standing beside disaster-affected people and serving humanity.
Expressing hope that young people associated with the organisation would remain engaged in humanitarian activities throughout their lives, he stressed the need to establish active Red Crescent units in every educational institution.
Such units would help organise young people’s participation in disaster preparedness and response more effectively, he said.
The KCC administrator also urged the trainees to join the special cleanliness campaign announced by the prime minister to prevent dengue.
Arifuzzaman Apu, vice-chairman of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society’s Khulna City Unit, presided over the closing ceremony.
Md Hafizur Rahman Moni, a member of the unit’s executive committee, attended as a special guest.
