Saint Martin’s Island, Bangladesh’s only coral island, will reopen to tourists on November 1, with the daily visitor limit increased to 3,500 from the previous 2,000.
The decision was taken at an inter-ministerial meeting on tourism on Sunday (October 25).
Under the new arrangement, tourists will be allowed to visit the island from November 1 to March 15, with a maximum of 3,500 visitors permitted each day.
The increased limit will allow more tourists to visit the popular destination during the season while the authorities regulate visitor numbers.
Saint Martin’s, located in the Bay of Bengal off the coast of Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar, is known for its coral formations, clear waters and marine biodiversity. The island attracts visitors from across the country, particularly during the winter tourism season.
