A Dhaka court has set 7 December as the new deadline for submitting the supplementary investigation report in the murder case over the killing of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman bin Hadi.
The report was scheduled to be submitted on Tuesday (November 3), but the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is investigating the case, failed to meet the deadline.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam fixed the new date, said Rokonuzzaman, a sub-inspector of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Prosecution Division.
This is the 21st extension granted to the investigating officer for submitting the supplementary report.
Earlier, on January 6, Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Faisal Ahmed, the original investigating officer, submitted a charge sheet against 17 people.
On January 15, Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inqilab Mancha and the complainant in the case, filed a no-confidence petition challenging the charge sheet. The court subsequently ordered the CID to conduct further investigations.
According to the case statement, Sharif Osman Hadi formed the political and cultural platform Inqilab Mancha following the uprising and served as its spokesperson.
On December 12 last year, at around 2:20pm, assailants riding a motorcycle shot Hadi on Box Culvert Road under Paltan Model Police Station before fleeing the scene. He sustained serious bullet injuries to his head and below his right ear.
He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Evercare Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on December 15 for advanced treatment.
He died there on December 18, a week after being admitted.
Following the attack, Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber filed an attempted murder case with Paltan Police Station on December 14. The case was subsequently converted into a murder case.
