A Dhaka court today (November 5) set December 9 for submission of the investigation report in the murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi, marking the 131st extension granted to the investigating agency to submit its findings.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam fixed the new date as the investigation agency failed to submit the report on Thursday, the scheduled date.
Police Sub-Inspector Rafiqul Islam, an official of the general registration section of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, confirmed the matter to BSS.
Sagar Sarowar, news editor of private television channel Maasranga TV, and his wife Meherun Runi, a senior reporter at ATN Bangla, were murdered at their rented apartment in the capital’s West Rajabazar area on February 11, 2012.
Following the killings, Runi’s brother, Nausher Alam Roman, filed a murder case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
On September 30, 2024, the High Court ordered the transfer of the investigation from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to a high-powered task force formed through the Ministry of Home Affairs.
