A Dhaka court has ordered Diamond World Managing Director Dilip Kumar Agarwala to be shown arrested in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station.
Agarwala, a former member of the Awami League’s central subcommittee on industries and commerce, was brought before the court on Thursday (November 5).
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah passed the order following a police application, Public Prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon confirmed.
The investigating officer, Police Inspector Md Masudur Rahman, sought the order, arguing that Agarwala’s involvement in the case had emerged during the investigation.
The prosecution supported the application, while defence lawyers opposed it and sought bail for the accused. After hearing both sides, the court granted the police request.
According to the case statement, around 35–40 leaders and activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League, Awami League and its affiliated organisations took part in a procession near Mohakhali Bus Terminal. During the procession, they chanted slogans demanding the withdrawal of the ban on the Awami League and allegedly detonated crude bombs.
A case under the Anti-Terrorism Act was filed with Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station on June 18, 2026, over the incident.
Police alleged that Agarwala financed and instigated the incident. They said questioning him could provide important information about his absconding associates, their plans and the sources of the explosives.
Police also argued that showing him arrested in the case was necessary for further investigation.
The Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Agarwala from a residence in the capital’s Banani area on October 19.
The following day, a court granted him one day’s remand in a money laundering case involving allegations of smuggling Tk678.19 crore. After the remand ended on October 21, he was sent to jail.
He was subsequently placed on a six-day remand in a case filed over the alleged attempted murder of student A Jabbar, who was shot during the July movement.
After the remand ended on October 27, the court sent him to jail again. On November 2, he was also shown arrested in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
He has remained in custody since his arrest.
