Bangladesh has sought Saudi Arabia’s support to reduce Hajj expenses by lowering taxes and charges on Hajj flights and reinstating Category-D accommodation for Bangladeshi pilgrims.
The issues were discussed during a meeting on Monday between Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam, State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat and Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Abdullah Ibn Dhafer Ibn Obaidah at the secretariat.
The minister said reducing Saudi-imposed flight taxes and charges would ease the financial burden on Bangladeshi pilgrims.
The state minister urged Saudi authorities to restore Category-D accommodation, saying its suspension had significantly increased lodging costs for pilgrims.
The Saudi ambassador assured Bangladesh that the proposals would be considered positively and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to improving services for Bangladeshi pilgrims while keeping Hajj costs at a reasonable level.
Both sides also discussed expanding cooperation in civil aviation, tourism and Hajj management.
