Speaking to reporters on Thursday morning after paying tribute at the newly built “July Memorial Monument” in Rangpur city, the minister emphasized a shared commitment to strengthening democracy through cooperation.
“The ruling party, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, is working to institutionalize democracy, and the opposition is also extending full cooperation in this effort,” he said. “Both sides want to strengthen democratic institutions and implement the July Charter in letter and spirit.”
Addressing opposition criticism, the minister said such remarks are part of normal political discourse.
“The opposition’s statements are political in nature. We engage in similar debates in parliament, and we remain committed to making it effective and ensuring the implementation of the July Charter,” he added.
He also highlighted the significance of July Martyrs’ Day, saying the nation will carry forward its spirit to build a democratic and prosperous Bangladesh.
The day is being observed in Rangpur with various programmes. The events began with the laying of wreaths at the July Memorial Monument.
Among those who paid tribute were State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain, Rangpur City Corporation Administrator Mahfuz Un Nabi, Rangpur Development Authority Chairman Shamsuzzaman Samu, and Divisional Commissioner Shahidul Islam.
Later, family members of the martyrs, led by Mokbul Hossain—the father of martyred Abu Sayeed—along with injured individuals and representatives of political and social organizations, also placed wreaths at the monument.
