The investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has submitted its investigation report to the prosecution regarding the killings that occurred during the Hefazat-e-Islam rally at Shapla Chattar in the capital Dhaka on 5 May 2013. The report names 41 individuals as accused, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed.
The report was formally handed over to the prosecution on Sunday (July 19) morning.
Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Aminul Islam said the submitted documents are currently being reviewed in detail. According to the investigation conducted so far, authorities have confirmed the deaths of 32 people in Dhaka. However, he noted that the investigation is still in its final stages, and the actual death toll cannot yet be confirmed with certainty.
The case names fugitive former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed as accused, along with the then Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Director General of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and the Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The list of accused also includes former Ekattor TV Editor-in-Chief Mozammel Haque Babu, former Chief Reporter Farzana Rupa, journalist Shahriar Kabir, and several other media professionals and intellectuals.
The prosecution stated that the investigation report is scheduled to be formally submitted before the International Crimes Tribunal on July 21, as previously scheduled.
