The High Court on Sunday issued a rule asking why authorities should not be directed to appoint female morgue attendants (doms) to conduct autopsies on the bodies of women.

A High Court bench comprising Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Md Ashif Hasan passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Md Monir Uddin.

The court asked the respondents to submit their reply within two weeks, the petitioner’s lawyer said.

The public interest litigation was filed on July 13, seeking necessary directives to ensure the appointment of female attendants for conducting post-mortem examinations of female bodies.
