Dhaka: BNP leader Rashed Khan has been appointed as the Political Assistant to the Prime Minister with the status of a Secretary on a contractual basis. The appointment was announced in a gazette notification issued on July 19 by the Contract and Foreign Appointments Wing of the Ministry of Public Administration.
According to the notification, Rashed Khan will assume the role from the date of joining, subject to relinquishing any other profession, business, or employment with any government or private institution. He will serve for the tenure of the Prime Minister or until the Prime Minister decides otherwise, whichever comes first. Other terms and conditions of the appointment will be determined through a formal contract.
Rashed Khan previously served as the General Secretary of Gono Odhikar Parishad. Ahead of the 12th National Parliamentary Election, he resigned from the party and joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). He later contested the parliamentary election from Jhenaidah as a BNP candidate under the party’s “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol but was unsuccessful.
His appointment comes nearly five months after the BNP-led government assumed office. Political analysts believe that securing such a key position within a short period of joining the BNP has significantly strengthened Rashed Khan’s standing within the party.
Reacting to the appointment on social media, Rashed Khan expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister and said he would carry out his responsibilities with honesty and dedication. He also sought the prayers and cooperation of the people in fulfilling his new role.
