Depositors of National Bank PLC will be able to withdraw money according to their needs from October 15, as Bangladesh Bank has instructed the bank to ensure adequate cash availability at all its branches and ATM booths.
The instruction was issued during a meeting between Bangladesh Bank Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman and National Bank Chairman Prof Dr Melita Mehjabin and acting Managing Director Tahmidul Haque on Thursday morning.
During the meeting, the governor directed the bank to ensure that depositors can withdraw their money as required.
National Bank Chairman briefed the governor on the bank’s recent situation, saying good governance had been ensured following various measures taken by Bangladesh Bank.
He also said positive changes had been made in the bank’s ownership and management to improve its efficiency and operational capacity.
The Bangladesh Bank governor said the central bank had recently taken note of National Bank’s liquidity situation and depositors’ difficulties in withdrawing money according to their needs.
Against this backdrop, he directed the bank to take necessary measures to protect depositors’ interests, maintain public confidence in the banking system and ensure smooth banking operations.
In particular, the governor instructed the bank to ensure that all National Bank depositors can withdraw their deposits according to their requirements.
According to the Bangladesh Bank directive, National Bank must ensure adequate cash supplies at all its branches and ATM booths so that depositors can withdraw money according to their needs from October 15, 2026.
Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governors Dr Md Habibur Rahman, Dr Md Kabir Ahmed, Md Sarwar Hossain and Md Anisur Rahman were present at the meeting.
