Dhaka: Bangladesh’s Meteorological Department has forecast rain and thunderstorms for at least nine regions, including the capital, Dhaka. River ports in the affected areas have also been advised to display Local Warning Signal No. 1. The rainfall is expected to bring some relief from the prevailing heat.

According to the weather forecast issued on Thursday (July 30), Dhaka is likely to remain cloudy until the afternoon, with chances of rain or thundershowers.

Southerly to southeasterly winds may blow at speeds of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour. Daytime temperatures are expected to fall by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius. At 6:00 a.m., Dhaka recorded a temperature of 25.6 degrees Celsius with 98 percent humidity. The city received 27 millimeters of rainfall over the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, a river port forecast valid from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. warned that the regions of Dhaka, Faridpur, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram, and Cox’s Bazar may experience temporary gusty or squally winds at speeds of 45 to 60 kilometers per hour, accompanied by rain. River ports in these areas have been instructed to hoist Local Warning Signal No. 1.

The nationwide weather outlook also says that until 6:00 p.m., many places in the Dhaka, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, as well as some places in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Khulna divisions, are likely to experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers. Heavy rainfall is also expected in some parts of the country.
