Rain, thunderstorms likely across Bangladesh today

The sky over Dhaka and adjoining areas may remain partly cloudy to temporarily cloudy today, with rain or thundershowers likely in some areas. However, the daytime temperature is expected to remain nearly unchanged, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

The forecast was issued in the weather bulletin for the six hours from 7am on Saturday (September 5).

The BMD said winds may blow from the south and southeast at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometres per hour during this period. No significant change in daytime temperature is expected.

According to the forecast, the temperature in Dhaka was recorded at 27.6°C at 6am today, while relative humidity was 89 percent. The highest temperature recorded in Dhaka yesterday was 34°C, while today’s lowest temperature was 27.4°C. No rainfall was recorded in Dhaka in the past 24 hours.

Sunset in Dhaka today will be at 6:13pm, while sunrise tomorrow will be at 5:42am.

Meanwhile, the BMD said there is no warning signal for the country’s inland river ports. No warning signal will be required for any river port from 5am to 1pm today.

Elsewhere, the nationwide weather forecast said that by 6pm today, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds may occur at many places in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.

Moderately heavy rainfall may also occur at some places across the country. At the same time, day and night temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged nationwide.

In other words, all eight divisions of the country may experience rain and thundershowers today. While some areas could see moderately heavy rainfall, no major change in temperature is expected.
