Bangladesh’s Meteorological Department has forecast gusty winds of up to 60 km/h over the Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Cumilla, and Sylhet regions by 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday (July 15). River ports in these areas have been advised to display Local Cautionary Signal No. 1.
According to the forecast, south or southeasterly winds may bring gusts along with rain or thundershowers to the affected regions.
The weather office also said that many places in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, as well as some areas of the Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions, are likely to experience light to moderate rain or thunderstorms. Isolated parts of the country may receive moderately heavy to heavy rainfall.
Day and night temperatures are expected to rise slightly across the country during this period.
Meanwhile, the monsoon trough extends from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and central Bangladesh to Assam. The southwest monsoon remains active over northern Bangladesh, fairly active elsewhere across the country, and moderate over the North Bay of Bengal.
Under these conditions, the Met Office said a low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas within the next 24 hours, which could further influence the country’s weather.
