Bangladesh’s Meteorological Department has issued Signal No. 1 for river ports in eight regions due to the risk of squally winds and thunderstorms. The department has also forecast rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds across much of the country today, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions.

According to the weather bulletin for inland river ports, valid from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Sunday (July 19), the regions of Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Sylhet may experience temporary rain or thunderstorms with gusty or squally winds blowing from the south or southeast at speeds of 45–60 km/h. As a precaution, river ports in these areas have been advised to display Warning Signal No. 1.

Meanwhile, the nationwide weather forecast issued on Saturday evening for the following 24 hours predicts that most areas of Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, along with many places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barishal divisions, are likely to experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds.

The Meteorological Department also warned that isolated areas in Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Due to the expected rainfall, daytime and nighttime temperatures across the country are likely to decrease slightly, the department added.
