A 14-year-old student opened fire at a school in Thailand on Friday, killing six people before apparently shooting himself. The suspect later died, bringing the total death toll to eight, including his grandparents, according to the latest reports.

The teenager first shot and killed his grandparents at their home on the outskirts of Bangkok before heading to Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Nonthaburi province, where he opened fire. Police said the gun used in the attack belonged to his grandfather.

The shooting took place shortly after 10am local time. Authorities said six people were killed at the school, while 15 others were injured. Initial reports identified three teachers and three students among the school fatalities.

Witnesses said students and school staff fled for safety after hearing gunshots. Emergency responders and police were deployed to the scene, while authorities urged the public to avoid the area.

The suspect reportedly fired at least 26 rounds during the attack. His motive remains unclear and is under investigation.

The incident marks Thailand’s second school shooting this year. It comes amid renewed concerns over gun violence and firearm ownership in the country.

Thailand has experienced several high-profile shootings in recent years. In October 2022, a former police officer killed 36 people in Nong Bua Lamphu province, most of them young children at a preschool. The 2023 Siam Paragon shooting in Bangkok also involved a 14-year-old suspect.

The latest attack is expected to intensify calls for tighter gun controls in Thailand, where firearms remain relatively widespread despite existing restrictions.
