US President Donald Trump’s administration is drawing up a broad post-war strategy to reshape the Middle East, with a focus on containing Iran, reducing regional tensions and expanding diplomatic ties between Israel and Arab countries.
The plan, however, is still in its early stages and has not yet been finalised.
According to reports, the strategy has three major elements.
First, Washington wants to build a stronger regional alignment among its allies to contain Iran and strengthen regional security cooperation.
Second, the administration plans to advance the next phase of Trump’s Gaza strategy while seeking security arrangements between Israel and Syria and pushing for implementation of an existing Israel-Lebanon agreement.
Third, Trump wants to expand the Abraham Accords and secure a normalisation agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia.
Such a deal would be a major diplomatic achievement for his administration and could form a key part of a new regional order.
The strategy is being developed by senior Trump administration officials and could guide US policy in the Middle East for the remainder of his term.
Officials have indicated that the blueprint could take several weeks to complete.
