Auto-rickshaw drivers blocked roads towards Basila and Gabtoli in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area on Sunday, causing severe traffic congestion.
The drivers were seen staging the blockade at Mohammadpur’s four-way intersection around 10am on October 11, disrupting traffic on surrounding roads.
The protest followed Road Transport and Bridges Minister’s remarks that auto-rickshaw services would be stopped in Dhaka within three days.
On October 4, auto-rickshaw drivers blocked a road in front of the National Press Club from around 10:30am to noon, demanding an end to harassment during road enforcement drives and the restoration of electricity connections used to charge their battery-powered vehicles.
