Two more flights from Bangladesh to Riyadh were cancelled on Monday following repeated Houthi attacks on the Saudi capital’s international airport, bringing the total number of cancellations over three days to nine.

A total of 3,012 passengers were scheduled to travel on the cancelled flights, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) said on Monday morning.

According to CAAB, the cancelled flights from Saturday to Monday morning included two operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, one by US-Bangla Airlines, three by Saudia and three by Riyadh Air.

Riyadh International Airport was shut down on Sunday following Houthi attacks. At least one Pakistani national was killed and 11 others injured in the latest attack on Sunday night.

The airport has come under attack at least five times over the past week. Three Saudi nationals, including a pilot, were killed in an attack last Thursday.

The attack reportedly targeted airport infrastructure as well as a Saudia aircraft, with one of the pilots believed to have been killed.

For nearly two months, Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen and the Saudi-led military coalition have been engaged in a series of attacks and counterattacks. Riyadh International Airport has emerged as one of the Houthis’ key targets in the conflict.

Earlier, the Houthis warned airlines of severe consequences if they operated flights using Saudi airspace. A major attack on Riyadh airport followed on Saturday.
