The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has agreed to resume its involvement in Yemen’s conflict by restoring financial support for southern Yemeni forces fighting Iran-backed Houthi rebels, according to The Guardian.

Under the reported agreement, Saudi Arabia will provide air cover for the anti-Houthi forces, marking a significant step towards repairing relations between the two Gulf allies, which had been strained by disagreements over Yemen’s future.

The move comes amid growing Houthi advances and repeated drone and missile attacks on Saudi infrastructure, including airports and energy facilities.

The UAE is expected to resume funding for forces including the Giant Brigades, which oppose the Houthis.

However, divisions remain among anti-Houthi groups, particularly over the future of southern Yemen and demands for independence.

Relations between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi deteriorated earlier this year after a UAE-backed southern separatist group attempted to expand its control.

Saudi Arabia subsequently targeted UAE arms shipments, prompting the UAE to withdraw from its remaining military engagements in Yemen.

The renewed cooperation reflects growing concerns in both countries over the Houthis’ expanding military capabilities and territorial gains.

However, the alliance faces challenges as local forces remain divided and the conflict continues to worsen.

The renewed fighting has also raised concerns over civilian safety and the humanitarian situation in Yemen, where thousands of families face displacement and shortages of essential supplies.
