US President Donald Trump has described attending the ceremony to receive the remains of American soldiers killed in the Iran war as one of the most difficult responsibilities he has faced as president, CNN reported.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday (July 22) while leaving for Dover Air Force Base to attend the ceremony, Trump said the purpose of the visit was to honor the service members who sacrificed their lives for the country.
“We honor our heroes. They truly are great heroes,” Trump said. “They all firmly believed that Iran should never be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.”
Trump said receiving the remains of fallen troops was among the hardest tasks for him as president. “It is something that has to be done,” he added.
