Tehran: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that Iranian forces destroyed 11 US military aircraft and helicopters and 17 advanced surveillance drones during the latest 15-day confrontation with the United States.
The claim was made in a statement released on Saturday, and reported by Iran’s state news agency IRNA and Mehr News Agency.
According to IRGC spokesperson Brig. Gen. Hossein Mohebi, Iranian armed forces targeted US military bases across the Middle East between July 8 and July 22, destroying 11 US warplanes and helicopters stationed there.
He also claimed that 17 surveillance and operational drones were destroyed, including eight drones that had not yet been assembled and were awaiting deployment.
The claims have not been independently verified, and there has been no immediate response from US authorities.
The latest round of hostilities reportedly erupted over renewed disagreements concerning control and management of the Strait of Hormuz. On July 8, US President Donald Trump announced that the ceasefire outlined in the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Washington and Tehran last month was no longer in effect.
Since then, both sides have exchanged strikes, disrupting shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and raising fresh concerns over global energy supplies.
Iranian media also reported that 59 people were killed and 592 others injured in the latest wave of US airstrikes on Iran, citing Hossein Kermanpour, head of the Public Relations and Information Centre of Iran’s Ministry of Health.
According to Iranian officials, an earlier phase of the conflict, from February 28 to April 10, left 3,375 people dead, including 2,875 men and 496 women. The country’s emergency medical services also reported that 118 healthcare workers were injured and 26 were killed during that period.
The casualty figures and military claims released by Iran have not been independently verified.
