The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation into allegations of corruption against former adviser to the interim government and National Citizens Party (NCP) leader Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan and three others.
The anti-graft agency has also formed a four-member committee to investigate the allegations.
The allegations involve irregularities and corruption in recruitment and transfers, procurement, and alleged syndicate activities at the Ministry of Youth and Sports during Asif Mahmud’s tenure as adviser.
A senior ACC official confirmed the development to the media on Wednesday (September 2).
ACC Deputy Director Md Zahid Kalam is leading the investigation committee.
Asif Mahmud faces allegations of taking bribes to facilitate illegal activities and involvement in money laundering.
According to ACC sources, he is also accused of directly interfering in the formation of the Bangladesh Cricket Board while serving as the sports adviser.
There are further allegations that he obtained various illegal benefits through his former Assistant Private Secretary (APS), Moazzem Hossain.
The other individuals named in the allegations are then Youth and Sports Ministry Secretary Md Mahbub-ul-Alam, Joint Secretary Dr Sheikh Mohammad Zubayed Hossain, and Deputy Secretary Md Masum Ahmed.
