Dr. Shaharia Shaila Jahan, who was made an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) following allegations of corruption and administrative irregularities, has been appointed deputy director of Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital in Dhaka.

The Health Ministry issued the appointment order on September 1, transferring Dr. Shaila to the post and making the hospital’s incumbent deputy director, Dr. Muhammad Habibur Rahman, an OSD.

Dr. Shaila previously served as superintendent of the 250-bed Meherpur General Hospital. During her tenure, she faced allegations of irregularities, including alleged corruption involving a tender worth around Tk 650 million.

Local residents also staged protests demanding her removal. She was subsequently made an OSD at the Directorate General of Health Services on November 16, 2025.

The National Doctors Forum (NDF) has protested her appointment, saying the allegations against her have not been fully investigated or resolved.

The organization has demanded that her appointment be suspended until the investigation is completed and that the reasons for Dr. Habibur Rahman’s removal be made public.

The NDF said the appointment has raised questions about transparency and accountability in the administration of a major public hospital.
